[Abk. für Attached Resource Computer Network; dt. »Netzwerk für Computer mit zugehörigen Ressourcen«], ein 1968 von der Firma Datapoint entwickeltes Protokoll für LANs, das heute keine allzu große Bedeutung mehr hat. Wegen des im Vergleich zu Ethernet niedrigen Preises wurde es relativ häufig zur Vernetzung von Industrie-PCs verwendet, nur selten jedoch im Bürobereich.
 
Arcnet zeichnet sich aus durch das Kommunikationsverfahren Token Passing und eine Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit von zunächst 2,5 Mbit/s, die in der wenig verbreiteten Variante ArcnetPlus auf 20 Mbit/s erhöht wurde. Als Netzwerktopologie kommen die Bus- wie auch die Sterntopologie infrage. Als Verteilereinrichtung sind aktive oder passive Hubs möglich. Die Verbindungsleitungen können Koaxialkabel, UTP-Kabel (Twisted-Pair-Kabel) oder Glasfaserkabel sein.
